Part Two: A Reflection on UFO's: Awe, Shock and An Interval

Studying Ourselves To Study UFOs.
The central premise of this blog is to explore two facets of the UFO situation. One is UFOs themselves, a species of our skies and the other is ourselves. These two aspects of this relationship appear to be two sides of the same coin. UFOs transcend our paradigms on many levels. They inspire awe, as well as a shock to our empirical sensibilities. Whether a shock is physical or it originates in the psyche, a natural result is a pause, or interval where one set of paradigms loses its foundational assumptions, and another set, while not yet fully fleshed, begins to appear. By focusing on the passive side of this equation, ourselves as an object of study or interest, perhaps there are clues as to why this phenomenon has arisen as well as why it persists.

Is Human Behavior and The Results of Behavior Predictable?
We take pride in the fact that we possess free will, but do we? The ego takes the blame for our mistakes and unintended consequences. What if we do not have such an abstraction as an ego? Consider this an exercise. Start off tomorrow morning as you begin your day, and take with you a pencil and paper. Write down everything that pleases you, annoys you, angers you, distracts you etc in the first column. In the second column, write down the consequences of this. At the end of the day, be sincere and honest with your self, after all no one else sees this list, there is no reason to pretend that we are infallible, or more importantly to imagine we are something that we are not. Ask yourself this when you look at your reactions; Did you have the free will to make a choice in how you reacted? If not, why?
Is free will a potential rather than something we already have? In terms of stimulus and response, are we not made up of a thousand small yes/ nos. likes/dislikes that we never question? Is there anything behind this autonomic, mechanical behavior that has a reality of its own? Or, do we imagine that someone is home in charge of our carriage when, in reality there is no driver? In other words is there nothing having an independent choice or life or more importantly a soul?
Throughout the centuries in ways appropriate to their time and place, there has been a consistent message from spiritual teachers on this very subject. Ask yourself this; Is this possibly a hallmark of our evolutionary path? Is the development of choice and the accountability for our own evolution twin aspects of what sets us aside from the other creatures of this planet? In this light, are our behaviors predictable?

Is Our Civilization In An Interval?
In other words, are our old paradigms falling away and yet the arrival of new ones to replace them has yet to occur? Are we floating in a sort of Sargasso Sea, in The Doldrums, being tossed hither and yon?

A Gathering Storm
Let’s list what our major challenges are;
1. Dependence on Oil, its depletion and lack of an alternative jokingly called Affordabilium.
2. Dependence on automobiles, cars, planes and trains that run on oil to compress distance.
3. Dependence on electricity to power devices that are now necessities, not options.
4. Global Climate Change
5. Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons
6. Dying of natural species such as bees to fertilize fruit
7. Water Resources becoming scarce related to #4
8. Proliferation of War based on the controlling of increasingly scarce resources, as in #1, 2,3,4,5 and 7.
9. Increase in cross species diseases.

Is there a perfect storm in the form of a slow burning fire that is yet to erupt?

An Empirically Based Civilization and its Waning
The United States is the most religious country in the world when you tally membership in organized religious denominations. Recent studies have shown The United States is also the most illiterate country in the world in terms of Christian theology. Is Fundamentalism actually an empirical religion based the literal meaning and physical existence of words in text?
Have we now psychologically deteriorated wherein microbes are seen as implacable and superior creatures? Has the increase in the use of psycho active drugs a reflection of a free floating societal anxiety? What if our technological tools that we depend on should whither? What would replace them, if anything?

UFOs As Modern day Portent of Change
Considered as a transcendent phenomenon, are UFOs situating themselves for a imminent collapse of our current form of civilization? On the negative side, there would be ripe opportunities in an easily foreseeable collapse, which do not require much aside from biding ones time until the inevitable occurs. On the positive side, when we are most helpless, for the above reasons are they positioning themselves in making a transition toward interspecies contact? If things worsen, would we be more agreeable to this than in circumstances where we are very physically secure in both our paradigms and their empirical technologies? What do you think?
