Dr Rodger Nelson of Princeton University pioneered the first experiments in this specialised area of interest arising from developments in physics in the field of quantum mechanics,as they apply to the sentient energy and matter of consciousness.
These were later replicated by Professor Rodger Bierman at the University of Ansterdam, and to my knowledge, most recently, by Dr Dean Radin at The Consciousness Research laboratory at the University of Nevada.
What these experiments suggest is that groups of people from a dozen or so to the billions with their eyes glued to televisions may effect the physical world in "unexpected "ways.
The basic concept is the interconnectedness of probability as observed in quantum behavior in space time and their non local character as "ghost" matter in a field , and their reciprocal and interconnected relationship to consciousness as an arbiter upon order in terms of physical matter.
This relationship is well explored in two recent books I have read and then re-read. One is a re-reading of "The Conscious Universe" by Dean Radin and the other is a new book to me, which is The "Physics of Consciousness" by Dr Evan Walker.
I am familiar with the work of Rupert Sheldrake and while I don't see his vision of a 'morphic field" I do appreciate his activism in designing experiments that practically anyone can undertake to test his theories, which, in turn have engendered any number of interactive websites devoted, in one way or another, to this concept of self experimentation. The other side benefit is a low cost.
If one took this theory of field consciousness and applied it to an experiment with UFOs, what would it look like, and, if we used Sheldrakes model of a low cost means to test this theory, how could that come about? I suggest a simple framework.
First, we would have to pick an extremely specific location and gather as much material as possible about that location ( photos, history, topography, climate, etc) and assemble a small dossier on this location.
Then, we would try to gather a large a pool as possible for folks willing to participate in the experiment. Each participant would receive a copy of this dossier.
We would pick a random date and time and ask these people to concentrate on the imagery for the UFO we have preselected at random at the last moment this specific location time and date in terms of the appearance of a UFO. A small group of researchers would gather at the same coordinated time place date and location to record, measure and analyse what, if anything occurs.
This would certainly be more interesting than the current earthbound merry go round of conspiracies we are currently distracted by. I think it would be an interesting challenge for those with an interest in the potential of this new potential field of physics as well as an opportunity to explore a new way at looking at the UFO Phenomenon. If the experiment produced a physical manifestation, the ramifications for UFO "flaps". our understanding of the underpinnings of the physical would certainly provoke more experimentation. This would be an opportunity for the skeptically minded to help in formulating the details of this experiment which they would be very useful.
For that matter, where is Jacques Vallee? Would this not lend insight into the human steering of manifestations through the imprint of our conceptual models upon the clay of matter?
Is this a likely linkage between the transformation of images that parallel the development of technology from air ships to saucers to wedge shaped vehicles that parody our own stealth designs? Or for that matter from Fairies to White Nordics to Greys...are we manifesting our own stereotypes in a quantum event?
I think so.
This was one of several experiments that came to me after reading this material. There are certainly alot more.
Is this a worthwhile experiment? I think so. We have nothing to lose.

Yes, Bruce,
This is a fascinating idea, and doable I think.
I don't believe the results, if successful, would account for all UFO sightings but would show that some are psychical manifestations. much in the way that Jung outlined.

Hi Bruce
I'm sure that the stereotypes are manifest and part of our perception of UFO's and if you look at the example of the human organism there are parallels. We are of a dual nature, both intuitive and rational – spiritual and temporal. These very traits are evident in the UFO paradigm – both nuts-and-bolts and ethereal in character.
Your physicist are repeating what has been known to mystics from the beginning of time, that we all, to a greater or lesser extent, are able, through mind energy, to affect outcomes and it's what shamans and witches, wizards and witchdoctors have been doing.
I've been reading “Tracks in the Psychic Wilderness” by dale E Graff, former director of the Stargate Project, who claims the we can cause and use synchronicity at will. But we have a problem in that there has been a study (Details on request) that shows that all such things are neutralised by scepticism – The Sheep and Goats effect that comes into play with all academic studies of the paranormal and is never mentioned as a possible cause of declining results. The intuitive part of our brains is being systematically attacked by the sheer onslaught of the popular sceptic influence.
On a recently on Channel Four Richard Dawkins and his “Enemies of Reason” program did some tests with dowsers who failed miserably. Some of these poor sods had been successfully dowsing for all of their lives and suddenly found that they could no longer do it.
With this kind of opposition to deal with it's no surprise that the scientific community is at odds with the idea of UFO's and I see no sign whatever that they will change their view. If they do, then all of the science of the last two or three hundred years is in the bin.
It is necessary to chose between intuitive and rational and just rational (science) in order to make any sense of the cosmos.
But, this is already getting done by group like CSETI and ECETI.
I'm convinced your experiment would work too.
Nice initiative and keep us informed if you proceed with this.

Hi,
I remember reading a book a long time ago, long before the onslaught of manifestations of the "Grey" prototype. It had an illustration of this conception. What was fascinating was the geometric growth of this type being reported in direct relationship to the distribution of this image as well as the direct and indirect credibilty associated with it. After researching these usually night time "abductions" while the events portrayed had the flavor of an induction of a "script", they also were reported, for the most part, by sincere in individuals. As Jacques Vallee pointed out, none of these made any "sense", just like the absurdity of the "extraterrestrials" pointed to car pollution as having an impact on the distribution of navigational routes, or many other examples too numerous to recount, as if dreams of a consensus nature were made physically manifest following a general script with variants "filled in" by the observer witness. The same applies to the pattern of these manifestations strictly following technological curves as well as entrained to belief systems which I do not believe is coincidental. I used to have a theory that amounted to a possibility that these "illusions" were in fact, intentional deceptions using a hiding in plain sight technique, just enough ahead of the technological curve to be possible in theory ( air ships-saucers-triangles) but far enough ahead to produce plausible denial...a nice neat set up for the division of opinion in order to be "left alone". After much thought on this, the picture just didnt add up as being a very good theory...the ridiculous variety of alien prototypes wearing everything a variety of costumes from spacesuits to nazi regalia to mechcanics overalls was another clue..they were seen often times "working on their ships" and had no apparent concern with being witnessed. Another clue was the common link of characteristics in "unrelated" paranormal phenomenon, as Jacques Vallee pointed out in terms of the Fatima type manifestations... It appears that some unquantified critical mass of active visualisation is required in addition to belief, as Alan pointed out. This to me is a fascinating possibility in terms of our exploring the strange new world of quantum mechcanics, and the underlying processes we dont yet fully understand...
Hi Richard,
Please correct me if I am wrong but CSETI's operating "belief system" is that they are communicating with a discrete empirically based alien species, rather than my view which is in effect, they are creating what they claim that they are witnessing, without understanding the underlying causes. Its been some time since I catch up with their accounts of activities, perhaps their view has changed. I would be surprised if it did.
So, we create what we think?! Assuming that this is true, are our thought processes being directed? Or will they be directed once everyone has Digital Television?
I dont know if digital television is a critical assumption that is akin to a requirement, however, on a macroscopic scale, I think war is an apt example.
absolutely true. jung described some to be such psychial manifestations. yet, I wonder the residue of the transcendental? surely something must create itself upon its own manifestation and corresponding energy level(s). just a thought.
nice posts.
